How do you say no to drugs without looking like a geek?

It’s a Friday night, your friends tell you that there is this cool party happening and that you should go. Upon arrival, something just doesn’t smell right. Well, it smells different, at least. You don’t know what to do, the panic eases in and you freeze up trying to think of an escape route. You need to be prepared for what lies ahead; drugs are everywhere. And if you don’t want to try anything, you don’t have to. It’s as easy as that.
Drugs are universal, and as you get older you will get to a point where they become a regular thing, always that annoying guest that shows up uninvited. Luckily, there are a few ways of dealing with it.
First thing first, surround yourself with friends who have similar interests as you, that way you can limit your encounters with the infamous Mary Jane and other members of her gang. If your friends feel the same way as you do about drugs, then the chances are you can leave together when the drugs start to surface. Or better yet, if you all say no, you aren’t alienated as the kid who is too much of a geek to have a good time. Drugs aren’t necessary to have fun, and just because they are being passed around doesn’t mean you have to partake. A lot of times there can be other substances laced in the drugs, and that would make for an even worse trip than expected. Just try to remain level headed, and surround yourself with people who feel the same way you do, that way you won’t feel left out. Also, I know it sounds kind of lame, but you can always talk to your older siblings, or even a teacher if things are getting out of hand and you don’t know where to turn to. You are never too old to ask for a helping hand.
Now, drugs aren’t always at parties. Sometimes they can surface when you least expect them, like at school. If someone offers you drugs you don’t have to be afraid to say no, just tell them “I don’t really feel like it”, or “Maybe later”. You don’t have to say “NO GO AWAY!” like you’re screaming at a criminal. Just tell them you aren’t interested, and they should respect your decision. Not everyone does drugs, and when they show up unannounced, the only thing you can do is refuse them without being too forceful. No one is going to push drugs on you without your consent. Just make up an excuse and walk away, it’s as simple as that. If you make a big deal about it and show them you are scared, they will pounce on you like vultures. They can smell fear. Just be cool and think it over. Besides, drugs tend to do terrible things to your memory, so once they burn out they probably won’t remember talking to you anyways. Remember, this is your choice. Only you know what is best for you, so do what feels right and individually we can define cool for ourselves.
